Why CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta Changed His Mind About Marijuana

One smart merchant has opened a Colorado marijuana outlet just 8 miles from the Nebraska border. Now people can enter the northeast corner of Colorado and readily buy pot without driving 70 miles to Denver. Small town law enforcement officers in Nebraska speculate that this enterprising fellow must be “the busiest person in Colorado”, and the entire Nebraska criminal court system is being clogged with cases, because marijuana possession is still a crime in that state, and they are arresting these “traffickers” by the busload!

Good! Maybe these drug arrests, unlike most, actually will accomplish something: maybe they will come to their senses and decide that instead of wasting millions of dollars locking people up – and ruining their lives – they should legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana in Nebraska! Good Grief, Charlie Brown! Our drug laws are archaic and our policies not conducive to ta healthy, productive society. I dare predict that by January 1 of 2019 more than half of our states will have followed the lead of Colorado. They have struck gold in that state; marijuana tax revenue is through the roof, crime rates are down, and they are saving millions because marijuana arrests are down 77%. There are minor problems caused by Colorado’s legalization of pot, but the benefits vastly outweigh the problems. Delaware should not hesitate to take its first small step in the right direction by enacting HB 371, which will impose only a minor civil fine for possession of a small quantity of marijuana.
