‘Cannabis Keeps Viral Progression Down’
DIRECTOR of the Caribbean Drug and Alcohol Research Institute Dr Marcus Day believes the time has come for regional governments to legalize marijuana to counteract the spread of HIV.
“I think we should regulate cannabis (marijuana) use the same way we regulate alcohol use, the same way they are talking about regulating it in the states of Washington and Colorado in America,” said Day, an HIV/AIDS specialist and coordinator of the Caribbean Harm Reduction Coalition.
“Cannabis actually keeps viral progression down in a body. If you are HIV positive and you are not on medication, smoking cannabis is actually therapeutic, and that’s science, not people’s opinion,” he told the Jamaica Observer on a visit to the island last… Continue reading

“Coming Together for Change” Part One by Bamboo Jones (revised)
“We need to help our members know the political climate and go to their legislators with an education package. Don’t be condescending, or treat them like idiots, or make it personal, or dress in a chicken suit or block a doorway.”
Cheyanne Weldon, Director of Women’s Outreach for Texas NORML, had Marijuana educational experience the 52 attendees from seven states were eager to hear at the first ever Southeast NORML Conference, December 15, 2012 in Nashville, TN.

To be Read at the Meeting of Tennessee NORML
December 15, 2012
Thank you for inviting me to speak to your group. I appreciate everything that NORML does to advance the cause of sensible marijuana policy. I want to particularly note the great work that Paul Kuhn does here in Nashville and thank him for working with me when I was a State Senator. I’m sorry I couldn’t be there in person to talk with you, but I value the work you’re all doing and I wanted to let you know about some of my work in Congress on this important issue.
I have been concerned for a long time about the direction of our drug policy, particularly with respect to marijuana. Our 40-year experiment with the so-called “War on Drugs” has led to bulging prison populations, racial disparities, and a lost generation of people with no education or job prospects.
Back when… Continue reading
